Just Say No to the Digital To Analog Converter

Even with the $40 coupon for a $50-$60 converter still takes $20 out of your wallet.
- Adding the converter box to someones old TV does nothing but confuse them.
This is much like VCR's of the past .... When does it need to be on or off.
What does BYPASS mean. Do I tune the TV or the Converter.? Which remote do I use.

In the simplest of cases you are trying to help someone get a little more mileage out of their investment. The advertised goal of the converter program is to help the person with an older analog TV using rabbit ears or rooftop antenna. The person is on a fixed income, sometimes a little older, but otherwise not technically savvy. If they were, they would have already replaced the ANALOG TV or at least would be on a CABLE/SATELLITE system and this would already not effect them (yet).

It is my opinion that they would be much better off with a NEW Digital Capable LCD.
- Same operation as the one they have. One remote and just scan for available channels once and they should be set. No confusion on what to do. I have experienced others who I have helped in the past get frustrated and just don't watch TV until I get back over there and FIX it. It is not broken, they just could not get the combo correct.

- New TV CON - Yes it does cost money -
- New TV PRO - They would have a much improved picture .

- Converter CON - If the program source is in HD then watching it on an older TV would not be very good, it would work just not a good experience.
- Converter CON - the cheapness of these converters has demonstated that the TUNER in them is not very good. It does not pick up many of analog stations the original TV could (given the same performance characteristics, location -distance, altitude, line of sight).

If you current older TV is about a 19" Tube, a new HDTV LCD panel will cost you about $200 (VIZIO 19"). at the time of this writing. If you take the $20 you would have spent on the converter and ad $180 of your hard earned money. You will absolutely love it once you have it! The picture will be so much better. You will probably get MANY more channels in DIGITAL than you had ANALOG.
You will get that money back farly soon, because the operation of the new LCD will be much less than an old TUBE type.

That is the real deal.
